Vintage Notes

The mid-September rains slowed ripening at York Creek, but did no damage to the grapes. The vines, benefiting from their location high on Spring Mountain, ripened fully by early October. These small, concentrated, mountain-vineyard grapes can contribute high levels of tannin as well as intense fruit. We fined early to moderate those tannins and accentuate the vineyard’s typical blackberry and black pepper spice. This cabernet will be quite rich and round by release, developing fully over the next ten years. PD (4/91)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques-including use of natural yeasts in extended fermentations and careful racking for clarity-have set Ridge apart. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
