Vintage Notes

Ridge has made twenty-two vintages of petite sirah from this mountain vineyard. The varietal is said to have come from the Rhône in the 1880’s, and differs genetically from both durif and syrah. (Its counterpart in Europe has yet to be identified.) In 1922, York Creek’s principle petite sirah planting, Dynamite Hill, was harvested in early October; sugar levels were ideal. The wine was fermented in small tanks, pressed within ten days, then aged for eighteen months in air-dried American oak. Approachable now, this elegant wine has the structure to develop for at least ten to fifteen years.

History

Since 1962, Ridge has explored California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal are perfectly matched. Using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce the highest quality wines from superior and distinctive fruit. We are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
