HISTORY

Bob Ponzo has farmed these vines in the Russian River Valley for over 40 years. The vineyard, planted on deep gravelly loam soils, is four and a half miles south of Lytton Springs. Here, the Russian River Valley’s cooler microclimate ripens the grapes later than at Lytton Springs and Geyserville. Small amounts of petite sirah are interplanted with zinfandel in the oldest block.

FOOD PAIRING

Chicken Yakisoba

This easy spring/summer meal comes together in under 30 minutes and is a delicious accompaniment to Buchignani Zinfandel’s notes of plum and fresh acidity. Yakisoba translates to “fried noodles” and is typically made with fresh ramen noodles, but you can also use fresh Chinese egg noodles.

Wine Enthusiast: 94 Points + Editors’ Choice

“Aromas of crushed raspberry and blueberry erupt from the glass of this Zin-Carignan blend. On the seamless palate, flavors of ripe berries mingle with chopped mint, toasted baking spices and anise in a framework of silky tannin and pinpoint-focused acidity. Drink this with anything savory/meaty and/or roasted.” -Tom Capo (June 2024)

Zinfandel Chronicles: 94 Points

“Sublime nose of red and black fruits, sage and pepper. Light to medium body with exquisite acidity. Bursting with crunchy fruits. Blackberry, cranberry, earth and white pepper on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. With a few extra years of bottle age this wine is already singing and will drink well for another 3-4 years.” -Tom Lee (March 2024)
