Winemaker Tasting Notes

Delicate citrus zest and melon on the nose, diaphanous, light salmon color, subtle and pure on the palate with refreshing acidity and a hint of apricot on the finish. JO (3/20)

Vintage Notes

Primarily a blend of grenache and mataro from our Lytton West Estate, this rosé also includes lesser amounts of zinfandel, young vine counoise and black malvoisie. The grapes are pressed as whole clusters, the juice drawn off and then fermented to dryness. It is crisp, refreshing and a perfect accompaniment to summer weather.

History

Our first Lytton Estate Rosé was 2016. Each year, since then, we make a rosé culled from the range of rhône varieties and zinfandel planted throughout our Lytton Springs vineyard. Extemporaneously produced by taste, the makeup of the wine changes vintage-to-vintage. As such, each spring upon release, it offers a unique opportunity to experience an old vineyard from a fresh angle.

Growing Season

Rainfall: 61 inches (above normal)
Bloom: Early May
Weather: The rains started in mid-November and never really stopped until mid-May. Summer was a bit cooler than normal and harvest began a few weeks late. Crop levels were up across all varieties except for grenache, which didn’t like the spring rains.
