2019 Mancini Ranch

Vibrant aromas of raspberry and violets with hints of clove and anise. Medium body and with exotic bramble notes on the palate. The finish is juicy and enduring. MB (6/21)

The Mancini Ranch is located in the heart of the Russian River Valley appellation where cool weather has popularized planting chardonnay and pinot noir. This vineyard, however, is a field blend of old-vine carignane and zinfandel. As both are warm weather varietals, here, they struggle to ripen, retaining remarkable acidity that focuses bright fruit and suggests an ageability that belies their humble origins.

Our first vintage from the Mancini Ranch was 2017. The vineyard is located in the Russian River Valley, and, unique to this region, planted substantially to carignane. The section of the vineyard that we harvest for our Mancini bottling also contains small amounts of zinfandel, alicante bouschet, grand noir, and some white varieties. The low yielding old vines are all head trained and dry farmed.

Weather: Total rainfall for the season was over 61” – almost double our usual amounts. The vines responded with bountiful yields of great quality.

Fermentation: Natural primary and natural secondary (malolactic) fermentations; once-daily pump-overs; pressed at 8 days.
Barrels: 100% air-dried American oak barrels (20% two years-old, 80% 5 years-old).
Aging: 12 months in barrel

Hand harvested grapes; indigenous yeast; naturally occurring malolactic bacteria, oak from barrel aging; minimum effective SO2. In keeping with our philosophy of minimal intervention, this is the sum of our actions.
