Vintage Notes

The “Race Track” zinfandel block at York Creek, planted to the old Picchetti clone, ripened very fully by the second week of October. The wine was still finishing its long, slow fermentation when put into barrel. With sixteen months in small cooperage, it fermented out, retaining all the richness and apparant sweetness of its ripe fruit. To further define the structure, we included a small amount of petite sirah from the same vineyard. Lovely now, though quite robust, this wine will be at its best over the next five to eat years. PD (5/92)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries – limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional techniques – including use of natural yeasts in extended fermentations and careful racking for clarity – has set Ridge apart. Located above 2,300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, we overlook San Francisco Bay.
