Vintage Notes

The growing season in this cool region began late, causing concern that these turn-of-the-century vines might not ripen. (All our other zinfandels were harvested by September 30) But Indian summer saved the day. The grapes were picked at full ripeness in the very last days of October and, miraculously, were among the lovliest o fa fine vintage. We included all the Pagani mataro and a small amount of alicante for depth and additional complexity. (Petite sirah is interplanted with the zinfandel.) Balanced, with intense fruit and spice, this splendid wine is approachable now. Its firm structure will allow it to age well over the next ten years.

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching California for those rare sites where climate, soil, and varietal are ideally matched. Our aim is to guide the natural process; using traditional methods, we strive to produce exceptional wines from distinctive fruit.
