Vintage Notes

A late spring delayed the start of this growing season, but a long, lovely fall fully matured the fruit. We usually harvest Paso Robles in September, but this vintage set a record; picking extended into the last days of October. A third of the crop was fermented as we do cabernet, with the cap of grapes floating on the surface. Typical of our zinfandel fermentations over the years, the submerged cap method was used on the rest. The wine was aged for twelve months— principally in one- and two-year-old air dried American oak, the balance in older, tempered barrels. This rich, well-structured wine is very appealing now, in its youth, and will be at its best over the next five or six years. PD (10/00)

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching for great vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal are ideally matched. Using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce wines that reflect their site.
